More Information on Wood Processing at EKO
There is an incredible amount of wasted energy to kiln dry green cut wood. EKO Beekeeping Supply buys it's wood three years in advance of producing hive components.
Our wood is rough cut in dimensional planks designed to give us the maximum usage with the absolute least waste of our natural resource - wood. After the wood has naturally cured outside in our holding yard, we then sort and select which pieces will be used for specific wood hive products.
The wood we use is "Lipa", a deciduous tree from groves in Europe planted specifically for the renewable product it is. Not only do the trees provide material for us but they also provide an amazing habitat and ecologically friendly function in carbon usage and watershed management.
When our wood cures naturally, all the twists and bends commonly associated with fresh cut kiln dried wood disappear. Our wood is already cured and has taken its final shape prior to machining into your frames and boxes. Therefore, we have a stronger, tighter grain, no knots product which should last exponentially longer than the cheap products so commonly available to the beekeeper.
Our boxes do not have just one large piece of wood per side but rather three pieces on a deep box and two on a medium box. The pieces are CNC machined and all machined joints are glued prior to final planing.
Our wood products are considered furniture quality by many of our customers. You do not have to pay furniture prices to own a quality wood product from EKO Beekeeping Supply. As I am sure you can understand, supply can be limited as we only produce from the quantity of wood we have purchased three years prior to manufacturing.
Isn't it about time you received an ecologically quality product for which you have paid. At EKO beekeeping supply you can rest assured there is no finer wood beekeeping products available anywhere.
